SIAS meeting 12 August 2008

As advertised in the Actuary magazine the Climate Change Working Party are pleased to be working with SIAS to put on an event about climate change.

The goal of this meeting is to educate actuaries and students about the horrors of climate change and the implications for actuaries. We have provided a number of slides which hope you will take and present to you colleagues back at work. We believe it is crucial that actuaries understand the implications of climate change when "making financial sense of the future".

We have some excellent speakers lined up for you:

TitleName
Science of climate change - why we believe it and what might happenDave Stainforth (Exeter Uni)
Economics of climate change Nick Silver (Parhelion)
An actuarial view of climate changeOliver Bettis (Great Lakes)
What are policymakers doing?Dan Hamza-Goodacre (Defra)
Implications for Actuaries and what can YOU do next?Trevor Maynard (Lloyd's)

Note the company/organisation information shown in brackets does not imply that the comments these speakers will be making are endorsed by their employers.

See our slideshows page we're still working on this but you can click the slides to see some of what's coming.

Look forward to seeing you on the 12th.
